THE ANDRÉ FAMILY

(1960 – 1976)

I found two boxes in a cellar that were going to be thrown away, they contain the slide archives of the André family, ranging from 1960 to 1976. I don’t know these people, I’m discovering them. There is Annette the young girl who becomes an adult, but also her parents, her grandmother, her uncle and the dog.

These films are the starting point of an investigation that I carried out through their kodak films, on the trail of their evolution over the years. It resulted in a set of 10 screen prints and 9 oil paintings.

Screen printing allows me to visually integrate the passage of time into the original images through variations in saturation, inking, frames and exposure. Under the different effects of material and superposition of color, I see the scenes several times as if through an old screen. The oil paintings were then painted in my studio. The moments captured by the family’s Rolleiflex camera are recomposed then drawn and painted using almost pure pigments applied in diluted washes. They thus become snapshot portraits of each member of the André family.
